A favourite of players for their simplicity and stripped back tone, the Gibson SG is an iconic instrument from the companies early 60's period. When the Les Paul body shape changed to the SG style in 1961, there was a window of two years where what came to be recognised as the SG still bore the Les Paul name. This particular model from 2002 pays homage to that transitional period, featuring the 3 pickup early 60s Custom design and a factory special order Cherry finish.
As ever, the Gibson Custom Shop is the pinnacle of craftsmanship, and this guitar is no exception. Pairing a solid one piece Mahogany body with a Mahogany neck and Ebony fingerboard, this 2002 Gibson Custom Les Paul SG features a traditional 24.75" scale length and 1960 slim taper neck profile, making the guitar effortlessly comfortable to play with a familiar feel to anyone who has played Gibson Custom Shop instruments before. The body is fitted with 3 Custombucker pickups which are up there with the best humbuckers we've heard, capturing those classic PAF tones with more clarity and definition than other Gibson pickups.
The guitar is finished exceptionally, with the VOS Cherry nitrocellulose lacquer being a factory custom order with these particular models only ever being mass produced in Classic White, making this extremely unique. Rounded off with with a period correct Maestro Vibrola, gold hardware and vintage spec tuners and control knobs, this 2002 Gibson Custom Les Paul SG Custom is an amazing and unique example of a Gibson Custom Shop vintage reissue instrument.
