Since its introduction in the mid 1960's as a guitar aimed at student players, the Fender Mustang has become a favourite of alternative musicians for its distinctive 60's looks, unique tone and great playability. The popularity of these short scale models has risen in recent years with the new Fender Mustang and Duo Sonic range, making Japanese Fender Mustang guitars a great option for anyone looking for a true vintage spec Mustang. This 2012 Fender Japan MG73 Competition Stripe Mustang in Fiesta Red combines expert Japanese craftsmanship with this iconic early 70's design.
Featuring a Poplar body with Maple neck and Rosewood fingerboard, this Mustang is finished in a unique Fiesta Red with matching headstock and cream competition stripe, a colour far less common than both Candy Apple Red and Competition Orange. As with all vintage spec Mustangs, this instrument features a shorter 24" scale length making it comfortable and playable for any kind of style, paired with a 60's 'C' neck profile and 7.25" radius for a true vintage feel. The original black bottom pickups give all the clarity and chime of a vintage Mustang single coil, with the phase switching pickup selectors offering a unique range of tones not found on other Fender models. Other features include a vintage style pearloid pick guard, white button Kluson style tuners, and a traditional and distinctive sounding Mustang vibrato unit.
Condition / Originality:
This guitar is in excellent condition, showing barely any signs of use and is internally and externally original, with smaller 250k pots and black shielding paint in all cavities. Its 'Made in Japan' JS serial number dates it to 2012, after the Japanese factory moved back to its MIJ serial numbering style. Included is a tremolo arm and gig bag.
