A stunning, super-rare custom colour pre-CBS Stratocaster, 100% original and in excellent condition complete with original white tolex case, trem arm, ash tray, owner's manual and tremolo spring pouch. The owners manual also shows the serial number of the guitar along with the name of the store it was originally purchased - 'Dickinson Music,' Dickinson, North Dakota, along with the date 8/24/64, for the price of $303.97 plus $52.50 for the case.
Burgundy Mist was an official custom colour option between 1960 and 1965 and was taken from the finish used on Oldsmobile cars in 1959. It is one of the rarest colours around, and hardly ever seen on a Stratocaster.
The finish on this instrument has very little discolouration from it's original Burgundy Mist hue which remains vibrant and a beautiful match for the original mint guard. There is fine lacquer checking all over the body as is almost always seen, and besides a few minor dings it is in remarkable condition. The Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard has a very attractive golden colour to it along with some really nice figuring and grain. The clay dots are discoloured as you would expect and the back of the comfortable 'C' profile neck has subtle wear giving it that desirable, smooth, 'played in' feel everyone looks for in a vintage instrument.
The pickguard shows minor shrinkage and a small split on the upper side where they always go. The original frets are fairly low but having recently been setup the guitar plays really well.
All hardware, electronics and solder joints are original.
